Biden’s Latest Court of Appeals Nominee Advances in Senate Committee

The Senate Judiciary Committee has moved forward with President Joe Biden’s latest selection for the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, as well as two trial court nominees who have been long-delayed.

Assistant US attorney Seth Aframe in New Hampshire; who was also President Biden’s pick, interestingly didn’t receive any Republican votes in his attempts to fill the appellate vacancy in the state. Compared to the previous nominee for the same position, Aframe has experienced a smoother confirmation process. Michael Delaney, the previous nominee, withdrew from consideration earlier in the year faced a backlash from progressivesĀ and senators of both the parties for his past representation of an elite private school involved in a sexual assault litigation.

Also, the nominations for the trial court posts in Oregon and California were approved following a contentious vote.

Mustafa Taher Kasubhai’s nomination to the US District Court for the District of Oregon has also been progressed by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
