Jerusalem Bus Stop Attack Highlights Ongoing Israel-Hamas Tensions Amid Extended Humanitarian Pause

On Thursday, the Israel police reported two gunmen opening fire at a bus stop in Jerusalem, killing three civilians and injuring 16 others. The assailants approached the bus stop in a vehicle and began firing at those waiting for the bus. Chief Superintendent and Head of Communication Mirit Ben Mayor provided additional details. Israeli Defense Force (IDF) officers managed to halt the gunmen as they were returning to their vehicle for more ammunition.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared a statement, confirming Hamas was responsible for the attack. Netanyahu promised further action against Hamas, with clear aims: to free all hostages, eliminate Hamas completely and ensure such a threat from Gaza never surfaces again.

On the same day, the IDF reported that an “aerial target” from Lebanon was neutralized after it had entered northern Israel.

Meanwhile, updates from the IDF report that Hamas is still holding 159 hostages, following last week’s temporary ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Since the agreement, several rounds of hostages have been released by Hamas. The sides have further extended their humanitarian pause for one additional day, until Friday.

The IDF has issued warnings against entry into Northern Gaza, declaring it a “war zone” despite the pause. Israel has been asked by Amnesty International to investigate allegations of war crimes for its bombardment activities in Gaza.
