Joshua Wright, ex-professor at what is colloquially known as ASS Law – Antonin Scalia School of Law at George Mason University, has commenced a prominent lawsuit against the educational instituition alleging sexual harassment. Interestingly, it is Wright who claims to have suffered from such harassment, following an investigation launched by the academic institute into a complaint made against Wright by a former Student.
However, this isn’t the first time that Wright’s sexual encounters with first-year law students (1Ls) have been public knowledge. The former professor admitted to such intimate relationships when he filed a defamation lawsuit against two of these 1Ls, Elyse Dorsey and Angela Landry, claiming damages of approximately $108 million. The women were bold enough to voice their experiences, alleging that their professional progress was manipulated by Wright who had seemingly taken advantage of his academic standing.
Wright’s latest lawsuit against ASS Law is founded on his claim that the university breached several laws and regulations during its handling of the accusations brought against him. According to Wright, the university’s investigation exhibited bias, and they refused to move forward with his counter complaint against the complainant, all while supporting his alleged false accuser both publicly and financially.
Distinctly noteworthy is Wright’s claim that the sexual harassment investigation against him was, in and of itself, an act of sexual harassment. This novel argument raised questions about how the university’s perspective on the case may have been influenced by Wright’s male sex, despite the fact that several of his actions, such as admitting to multiple concurrent relationships with students, suggests an egregious abuse of his academic authority.
Interestingly, and perhaps ironically, the allegations raised by Wright in his complaint only serve to paint a less favorable picture of his character. Yet, lack of judgement is arguably how he found himself embroiled in this scandal in the first place.
