In a significant move towards more inclusive legal professions, over 90 law firms have pledged towards making the workplace more accommodating for lawyers with disabilities The American Lawyer reports. Coordinated by the Diversity Lab, the initiative saw participation from both U.S. based Am Law 100 firms as well as Canadian and British law firms.
These firms agreed to adopt up to 10 disability inclusion
commitments, designed by an advisory group of experienced lawyers from across legal firms, law schools, and corporate legal departments.
The commitment comes at a poignant time. According to the Diversity Lab, even though one in five U.S. workers identifies as having a disability, the figure is strikingly low among lawyers, who currently self-identify at a rate of only 1.4%
