With the backing of both parties, the U.S. Senate recently affirmed Jamel Semper as the latest judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Semper, at the age of 42, brings a promising career in legal practice and a formidable repertoire of experience to the role.
In recent years, Semper performed his duties as an assistant U.S. attorney, wherein he took on the role of deputy chief of the criminal division in Newark, according to the New Jersey Law Journal. Before his tenure in Newark, Semper dedicated five productive years to both the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.
The entire nomination process showcased a wide dominion of support for Semper, coming to a fruitful conclusion in a 54-44 vote on the Senate floor.
Senator Cory Booker praised the Senate’s confirmation. He lauded Semper as an exemplary public servant who demonstrated unwavering commitment to New Jersey for over 15 years. “I’m thrilled that the Senate has confirmed Jamel Semper…I know he will be a fair and just jurist,” said Booker.
