Giuliani Defies Court, Continues Defaming Plaintiffs Amid Ongoing Defamation Trial

Rudy Giuliani, former counsel to ex-president Donald Trump, has caused a stir in legal circles once again. On the first day of his defamation trial, he stepped out of the courthouse and proceeded to defame the plaintiffs further. Atlanta poll workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss brought the case against Giuliani, whom they accused of falsely claiming they committed ballot fraud. Already, Giuliani’s repeated failure to comply with discovery has led to a default judgment against him in this case. The focus of the trial now is to determine damages.

Upon exiting the courthouse, Giuliani proclaimed, “Everything I said about them is true. I told the truth. They were engaged in changing votes.” Interestingly, he also proposed he would testify about his supposed “truths” on the stand.

This statement presents a problem, as Giuliani’s comments about Freeman and Moss have already been determined as false and defamatory by the legal system—essentially, this is now an established precedent in the case. Consequently, he is not authorised to testify about them.

Adding further intrigue to the case, Giuliani’s lawyer Joseph Sibley IV suggested that revealing Giuliani’s financial condition to the jury will be part of their defense strategy. Sibley cautioned the jurors, “If you award them what they are asking for, it will be the end of Mr Giuliani.” This assertion was made despite Giuliani’s refusal to give his financial details.

The plaintiffs’ lawyers reacted to Sibley’s claim by promptly filing a motion to “preclude further violations of the court’s orders.” They have also protested against Giuliani introducing any statement or evidence suggesting his insolvency, based on the court’s earlier order.

The trial is ongoing, with Moss taking the stand to attest to the damaging effects of Giuliani’s false statements on her and her family. An update on this and future developments can be found here.
