Furthermore, Minnesota is now dealing with the highest number of infection cases, with 20 reported incidents of salmonella. As of December 7, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported at least 230 infected individuals from the cantaloupe consumption in 38 different states. In addition, 96 people have already been hospitalized due to the severity of the ailments.
Providing a ray of hope amidst adversity, a Minneapolis firm named Pritzker Hageman is seeking justice for the victims of this unfortunate event. Holding the distributors accountable, the firm is now actively litigating against Sofia Produce and TruFresh, in an attempt to cover the costs of exposure.
While the battle for justice intensifies in courts, consumers are advised to take precautions when choosing their fruits, even in their quest to eat healthily during the holiday season. Until further updates, replacement of cantaloupes with fruits such as bananas or apples is advised.
