In a high-value acquisition, a consortium led by the Japan Investment Corporation (JIC) seeks to acquire the semiconductor packaging unit of Japanese electronics conglomerate Fujitsu Limited, specifically Shinko Electric Industries, for an approximate total of $4.7 billion. Leading law firms Davis Polk & Wardwell, Nishimura & Asahi, and Mori Hamada & Matsumoto are assisting the JIC with the purchase.
It is noteworthy to recall that this is not the first significant semiconductor sector acquisition by the government-supported JIC. They previously purchased semiconductor materials creator JSR Corporation for an estimated $6.4 billion earlier this year, an acquisition in which legal advice was provided by Mori Hamada and Davis Polk. The advisory role for JSR Corp was taken on by Anderson Mori, another top law firm in Japan, during that transaction. Here is the reference to the previous acquisition.
