Rising Incivility Among Legal Professionals Amid Pandemic and Global Conflicts

According to a recent survey conducted by the Toronto Lawyers Association, there has been a notable increase in incivility within the legal profession, particularly in the wake of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and current Israel-Hamas conflict in the Middle East. It reported that almost 70% of the surveyed professionals have either faced or witnessed discourteous behavior from fellow lawyers.

Aitan Lerner, the president of the Toronto Lawyers Association, affirmed this decline, noting that the increasing erosion of civility is not confined merely to the legal field. He expressed his belief that this trend is reflective of a broader societal impact, therefore, viewing the legal profession as a microcosm of a larger societal change.
