Judge Dismisses Plaintiff Experts in Acetaminophen-Autism and ADHD Lawsuits

In a significant development within the realm of litigation, all five general causation experts presented by plaintiffs’ attorneys in over 600 lawsuits have been dismissed. These lawsuits contend that the prenatal use of acetaminophen – a common pain reliever – leads to autism and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This decision was handed down by U.S. District Judge Denise Cote, who is presiding over the multidistrict litigation in the Southern District of New York.

The Judge expressed doubts over the reliability of the plaintiffs’ experts, which prompted the dismissal. Though individuals involved in the case have been careful about making too many public statements, Kenvue – previously known as Johnson & Johnson Consumer and the current manufacturer of Tylenol, a brand of acetaminophen – indicated its intention to also move for the dismissal of the lawsuits in light of this development.
