Christopher Fonzone, a seasoned national security attorney, has been confirmed to helm the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel. Acting as the primary individual for complex executive branch legal inquiries, Fonzone received bipartisan support with a confirmation vote of 50-17.
Fonzone is no stranger to the Justice Department office, having formerly served as an attorney during the Obama administration. His current position is as general counsel for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
In his new role, Fonzone’s duties will comprise creating legal opinions for the attorney general and providing advice to the White House and other federal agencies. He comes to the role with considerable experience, being a Harvard law graduate and having worked as a clerk for now-retired Justice Stephen Breyer, in addition to his time as a partner at Sidley.
Fonzone’s confirmation reflects his highly respected status among government legal counsels, displaying a track record of dedication and depth of experience.
