Disruption and Innovation in Legal Landscape: Key Takeaways from KMIL Conference

The inaugural Knowledge Management & Innovation for Legal Conference recently hosted two noteworthy keynote speakers: Andrea Alliston, a partner and leader of knowledge and practice innovation programs at Canada’s largest law firm, Fasken, and Mark Smolik, the chief legal officer at DHL Supply Chain Americas. Their shared area of discussion was disruption and innovation within the legal landscape.

Organized by Patrick DiDomenico, the president and founder of InspireKM Consulting, along with Joshua Fireman, president and founder of the strategic consulting firm of Fireman & Company, the conference offered an intellectual forum to fill the gap left by a similar conference that had moved from New York to Chicago.

Broadening perspectives were the order of the day, with Alliston initiating discourse on leading through change, complexity and disruption in the legal domain. Smolik brought valuable insights on the winning strategies for new business and innovation from the perspective of a chief legal officer to set the tone on the second day of the event. Both speakers engaged in in-depth interviews with LawNext host Bob Ambrogi after their keynotes which were featured in a dedicated episode.

This episode of LawNext was brought into being with the support of their sponsors, including Paradigm, home to practice management platforms; PracticePanther, Bill4Time, MerusCase, and LollyLaw, along with the e-payment platform Headnote and legal accounting software, TrustBooks. Other sponsors included DocReviewPad and CARET.
