Ex-Gibson Dunn Attorney Sentenced for Insider Trading in High-Profile Case

Former visiting attorney at Gibson Dunn, Romero Cabral Da Costa Neto, has been sentenced to two months in prison for insider trading charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

The 33-year-old Brazilian lawyer unlawfully traded on material, nonpublic information during his time at the leading legal firm, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. The insider trading activities were flagged and subsequently investigated, leading to a guilty plea from Da Costa Neto.

The prison sentence was handed down on Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Carl J. Nichols of the District of Columbia. This case underscores that legal professionals are not above the law, and caution is obligatory when dealing with sensitive material and nonpublic information.
