One such incident involved a threat made at a Colorado Supreme Court Justice’s residence, which the Denver Police Department found to be a hoax. Despite the incident’s outcome, police continue to emphasize the significance of maintaining privacy and security during these sensitive situations.
Vikki Migoya, FBI Public Affairs Officer, expressed the bureau’s dedication to resolving these threats, stating their commitment to investigating any acts of violence committed by someone using extremist views to justify their actions, irrespective of the motivation behind them.
Parallel to these events, Advance Democracy, a nongovernmental organization, has compiled a report highlighting a rise in violent language aimed at the court. The report draws connections between the response to the FBI raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and the gag orders issued against the former president in his ongoing criminal trials. It notes that some social media users have even obtained the justices’ email addresses, telephone numbers, and office locations.
The recent threats against the Colorado Supreme Court justices occurred in the wake of the court’s 4-3 decision deeming Trump unqualified for the 2024 presidential race due to his alleged participation in an insurrection. Citing Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment of the US Constitution, the court consequently reversed a prior lower court decision that had ruled Trump’s actions insufficient for disqualification under the same constitutional provision.
