Kansas City Royals Appoint Michael Post as Vice President and General Counsel Amid Stadium Negotiations

The Kansas City Royals, a Major League Baseball (MLB) team currently seeking a new stadium, have appointed Michael Post as vice president and general counsel. Post’s appointment comes two years after the Royals hired Adam Sachs, a former senior counsel at Husch Blackwell, as their first in-house legal chief. Sachs has now transitioned into the role of Senior Vice President and Chief External Affairs Officer for the team, according to an announcement by Post.

Adam Sachs has been instrumental in the Royals’ bid to secure partial taxpayer support for a $2 billion stadium upgrade, a subject of much discussion. Sachs will continue to provide strategic advice on various legal issues related to the Royals. Prior to joining the Royals, Michael Post worked as Associate General Counsel with Crestwood Midstream Partners LP and Senior Corporate Counsel at H&R Block Inc.

Post voiced his enthusiasm for his new role, expressing his excitement about working with Adam and the rest of the team, including Royals President of Business Operations, Brooks Sherman Jr. Notably, both Post and Sherman formerly worked at Crestwood.

Michael Post’s appointment is one of the latest in a series of legal hires made by Major League Baseball teams, indicative of a broader trend within the league. In addition to the Royals, other MLB teams such as the Mariners, Cubs, and Nationals have added new legal professionals to their respective teams. As the industry evolves and new challenges and opportunities appear, the role of legal professionals within baseball organizations is likely to further evolve and expand.
