With incoming Association of American Law Schools (AALS) President Melanie Wilson at the helm, ‘courage in action’ will define the organisation’s theme for the year. Drawing inspiration from powerful past themes voiced by previous AALS presidents, Melanie Wilson highlights the necessity of bravery when tackling the important work needed in legal education.
In a recent announcement, Wilson declared “When we do the work that needs to be done for legal education, we have to have courage”. She further accentuates that along with possessing courage, there lies the necessity to act courageously. Drawing upon the theme of ‘defending democracy’ set by former president Alexander, Wilson’s emphasis on ‘courage in action’ symbolises a continued approach to tackling legal education’s challenges head-on.
This ethos underscores the role of courage in reinforcing and shaping legal practices and education, a message that Melanie Wilson clearly endeavours to uphold throughout her tenure as President of AALS.
