Raine Group Appoints Daniel Satin as New General Counsel Amidst Promotions

Raine Group, an investment bank started by Big Law alumni, has announced the appointment of Daniel Satin as its new general counsel. Previously serving as a former Cravath, Swaine & Moore associate, Satin joined Raine as a deputy general counsel in mid-2022 from the Meritage Group. He has taken over from Alfred “A.J.” Chianese III, who has been elevated to the role of chief operating officer at the bank.

According to Bloomberg Law, Chianese, a former Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher associate, joined Raine in 2014 and assumed the position of general counsel five years later. In his new role, Satin will report to Chianese.

Raine Group was co-founded by attorneys Brandon Gardner, Joseph Ravitch and Jeffrey Sine in 2009. Gardner was a former lawyer at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and has moved on to hold the role of the firm’s president. Ravitch and Sine also began their careers in Big Law, with Ravitch once working in Cleary’s New York, London, and Moscow offices and Sine as an attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York and London.

Over the years, Raine Group has made significant strides in merchant banking in the telecoms, media, and technology sector, amidst other notable transactions. Notably, the bank advised Arm Holdings PLC on its nearly $5 billion IPO and served as financial advisor to World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. on its $9.3 billion sale to Endeavor Group Holdings Inc.

It’s also worth noting that Raine Group has been consulted by professional golf players on a merger that could potentially reshape the sport. The bank also played a part in an approximately $850 million takeover of the French football team, Olympique Lyonnais.
