Plaintiffs’ attorneys are seeking a $10 million fee for their work on a class settlement related to a significant pest issue at Family Dollar. The settlement grants $25 gift cards to customers who purchased items from stores that were closed due to a rodent infestation at one of the company’s warehouses.
According to a legal document submitted on Thursday, the attorneys argue that their fee request is justified considering the value of the settlement, the benefit provided to the class, and the risks involved in the litigation. The case was brought before Judge Sheryl H. Lipman of the US District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.
The litigation ensued after February 2022 when hundreds of Family Dollar stores across six states had to be closed as a result of the infestation.
A substantial number of claims exceeding 800,000 were filed before the approaching deadline. According to the attorneys, their fee request aligns with the parameters specified in the circuit.
