Utah Court Dismisses Defamation Lawsuit Against Jazz and Westbrook in 2019 Courtside Altercation

A defamation lawsuit filed against the NBA’s Utah Jazz and, at the time, Oklahoma City Thunder’s point guard Russell Westbrook, has been dismissed by the Utah Court of Appeals. The couple, Shane Keisel and Jennifer Huff, alleged defamation and emotional distress after a courtside altercation with Westbrook in a March 2019 game.

The attended game pitched the Utah Jazz against the Oklahoma City Thunder on home ground for the Jazz. Keisel, a consistent spectator supplied by his employer with about three-row distant seats from the bench of the opposing team, was involved in the discussed scuffle.

However, the lawsuit has been rejected once again, as per the decision made by the Utah Court of Appeals. The court held that neither Utah Jazz nor Westbrook defamed or inflicted emotional distress against Keisel and Huff subsequent to the courtside incident.
