This proposed date is a full eleven months later than the trial commencement date suggested by the prosecuting agents, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which suggested a date of March 12, 2024 for the start of the trial proceedings. According to Bloomberg Law, the justification given by Girardi’s legal team was that due to Girardi’s “universally recognized” cognitive impairment, additional time would be needed for the assembly of his defense.
