Former U.S President, Donald Trump, will not be allowed to claim his innocence regarding allegations of sexual assault made by writer E. Jean Carroll, as recently ruled by a U.S District judge per a trial set to commence soon. [Bloomberg Law]
The trial is a continuation of a former lawsuit where the New York jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation in May 2023. Yet, it has been clarified by U.S District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan, that the upcoming trial will not be a re-iteration of the previous proceedings in this case.
It should be recalled that Carroll made her accusations public in 2019, alleging the ex-president raped her in a Manhattan department store dressing room. This resulted in two separate lawsuits against Trump after he labelled her as a liar in response. With the upcoming trial, Carroll will be pursuing her interests in defamation against Trump once more.
