U.S. law firms Greenberg Traurig and DLA Piper are bolstering their presence in Mexico, as the appetite for expansion in the country grows among investors. Greenberg Traurig has recruited Guillermo Sánchez Chao, a seasoned trade lawyer and former partner at Chevez Ruiz Zamarripa, one of Mexico’s leading tax law firms. Chao will now serve as a shareholder in the newly minted international trade practice at Greenberg Traurig’s Mexico City outfit. This marks one of several key hires in the local market from U.S. law firms.
DLA Piper has also made notable strides in its attempt to harness top-tier local talent, adding an experienced finance partner to its roster. Although the global shift toward nearshoring has placed Mexico in a favorable light for business expansion, it is also kindling a fiercely competitive environment for legal talent in the country. With these recent developments, it appears that this trend isn’t expected to slow down anytime soon.
