Crowell & Moring has expanded its healthcare practice by hiring Linda Malek, former chair of healthcare and life sciences at Moses Singer. Malek explained that the move was inspired by her need for a larger platform to support her expanded practice. She referred to Crowell & Moring as a regulatory “superpower” in the industry.
Joining Malek in the move from Moses Singer to Crowell & Moring are healthcare partner, Jason Johnson, and of counsel, Blaze Waleski. Both parties will also focus on privacy and cybersecurity groups at Crowell & Moring. Malek disclosed these details in a recent interview.
Crowell has been making strides in expanding its healthcare practice, known for representing leading clients including United Healthcare Insurance Co, Humana Inc., and Sentara Healthcare. The firm even enlisted the services of Justice Department alumni, Michael Shaheen, following his brief tenure at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan.
Malek’s practice ranges across healthcare regulation, health equity and data privacy. She has expressed enthusiasm about tackling emerging issues in the sector and blending the cybersecurity expertise of Crowell with her own clinical research competence.
Crowell healthcare co-chair Troy Barsky hinted at the value added by the new additions to the firm. According to him, they offer an expanded service-bandwidth for the firm’s clientele and strengthen Crowell’s healthcare and digital health service offering.
Finally, Malek, Johnson and Waleski will contribute to the firm’s consulting arm, Crowell Health Solutions, which opened its doors in February 2023.
