In 2013, faced with the persistent hurdles his law firm encountered due to the lack of effective practice management solutions on the market, Florida lawyer TJ Fraser decided to develop his own. As a result of his innovative efforts, his subsequent firm’s revenue shot up by nearly 50%, in spite of having a smaller team compared to his previous firm.
In the following years, Fraser and his team have continually refined their management software, dubbing it ZenCase. In 2021, they officially launched it to the larger legal market after migrating their first client, a 50-plus user law firm, to the platform.
In a more recent episode of LawNext, Bob Ambrogi is joined by Fraser, currently ZenCase’s CEO, and Olivia Mockel, ZenCase’s president and COO. Mockel, who recently transitioned to ZenCase, was previously in leadership roles at other practice management companies, including her stint as the CEO of PCLaw | Time Matters, a joint venture between LEAP and LexisNexis.
What sets ZenCase apart from other platforms, however, isn’t just their unique approach to managing contemporary law firms. The ZenCase team is also exploring the potential of generative AI, aiming to incorporate it into their practice management solutions. Such a move is poised to enhance their product’s offerings, widening its appeal to different types of law firms.
The shift to in-house solutions, driven by unmet market requirements, can often spawn innovation. Fraser’s move to create ZenCase is a clear example. Coupled with the team’s plans for future development and AI integration, ZenCase plans to carve a notable niche for itself in the law practice management solutions sector.
