New York-based social justice law firm Sanford Heisler Sharp recently made an internal shift by naming David Tracey as its new managing partner. Tracey will work alongside firm chairman David Sanford and co-vice chairmen Jeremy Heisler and Kevin Sharp.
As managing partner, Tracey will play a critical role in “establishing firm-wide policies and office culture,” he disclosed in an interview. In addition to his new position, he will continue in his role as co-chair of the firm’s public interest litigation practice group with his efforts rooted in the New York office. This change in management comes with the exit of Deborah Marcuse in December 2023.
David Tracey, a prominent figure in advocating social justice, has a reputation in the legal case against State Farm. Serving as co-counsel in a proposed class action, he is part of the legal team alleging that State Farm employed discriminatory algorithms in the processing of claims leading to unjust fraud suspicion against Black Americans. The firm, under Tracey’s influence, is expected to handle more cases related to the use of algorithms, tech automation, and artificial intelligence by companies.
In the past, Sanford Heisler has brought cases against considerable establishments such as Morrison Foerster, Ogletree and Proskauer Rose, where they represented clients alleging gender discrimination.
Sanford Heisler’s legal discipline doesn’t end there, its specialties include whistleblower cases, Title IX investigations, and investor-centered financial services disputes. The linchpin in these matters, Tracey says, is a commitment to promoting civil rights, defending workers’ rights, and ensuring accountability in the workplace. “That’s where my passion lies,” he stated.
Alongside the appointment of Tracey as managing partner, Thiru Vignarajah has been named the new managing partner of Sanford Heisler’s Baltimore office on Jan. 8. Their national reach extends through offices in Palo Alto, Nashville, and San Francisco, with a team comprising 65 attorneys and 25 partners, as noted on the firm’s website.
