AMD and Micron Appoint New Legal Chiefs Amid Rising AI Demand

Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) and Micron Technology Inc. announced on Monday that they have appointed Ava Hahn and Michael Ray, respectively, as their top legal executives.

Ava Hahn is taking over the role at AMD, replacing the outgoing legal chief, Harry Wolin, who is retiring. She recently worked as the top legal officer for Lam Research Corp. for four years. According to Bloomberg data, Wolin owns AMD stock valued at almost $250 million. Records show that he has sold nearly $9.4 million in AMD shares in the past year.

Ahead of her appointment, Hahn had been the chief legal officer for several other technology companies, including telecommunications vendor ShoreTel Inc., semiconductor maker Genesis Microchip Inc., CA Technologies Inc., and Aruba Networks Inc. All these firms have since been acquired by other tech companies. She began her career as a corporate and securities associate at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and has also worked as legal chief for venture capital firms Kleiner Perkins and Felicis Ventures.

Meanwhile, Michael Ray is joining Micron, replacing former general counsel Robert Beard who left last year for a leading legal position at Mastercard Inc.Robert Beard. Ray stepped down earlier this month from his position as the longtime chief legal officer and corporate secretary for Western Digital Corp.Western Digital Corp. Western Digital is planning to divide itself into two publicly traded companies. Its former chief compliance officer, Tiffany Scurry, joined AMD in the same role late last year.

AMD’s stock price has surged in recent weeks as chipmakers are seeing an increase in demand. This demand is driven by the need for products that support artificial intelligence technologies chipmakers.

AMD is also expanding its range of AI processors in partnership with Microsoft Corp, which it announced last yearpartnership it unveiled. Micron, which is based in Boise, Idaho, is the largest US manufacturer of memory semiconductors Micron.
