California State Bar judge has recently issued an order limiting the legal license of David Lira, indicted former attorney associated with the Girardi Keese law firm. This order prohibits Lira from any control over client trust accounts as he faces a state bar court trial for allegedly violating ethical and legal obligations for lawyers.
The limitations imposed on Lira’s legal license, however, do not fully align with the suggestions of the bar prosecutors, who had recommended placing Lira on an involuntary inactive status law prior to a hearing on his disciplinary case. State Bar Court Judge Phong Wang
declined these particular recommendations.
David Lira, who is also the son-in-law of the disbarred lawyer Tom Girardi, is currently defending against an indictment in Illinois. The case alleges that Lira, Girardi and Christopher Kamon – the former chief financial officer of the now-defunct law firm – stole millions from settlements intended for clients.
In a related development, Keith Griffin, another former lawyer from Girardi Keese, has faced a six-month suspension.
