Former Trump advisor Peter Navarro received a sentence of four months for contempt of Congress. Navarro, once referred to as Trump’s “econ crank”, had been linked with the acquisition of tens of millions of doses of hydroxychloroquine for the government during his time working on the coronavirus.”
In 2021, Navarro had dismissed the subpoenas, claiming he was acting on orders from his former boss to “protect executive privilege and not let these unhinged Democrats discredit our great accomplishments.” This statement was made in reference to his work on the virus. In 2022, the January 6 Committee subpoenaed Navarro over his efforts to block congressional certification of President Biden’s electoral college win. Bannon, like Navarro, dismissed a subpoena and was subsequently indicted.

Judge Mehta noted that regardless of Navarro’s attempts to assert executive privilege, it was his defiance of Congress that was his downfall. All other White House employees had shown up and asserted executive privilege in due course, unlike Navarro. According to Judge Mehta, Navarro had enough forewarning from Bannon’s case, but nevertheless decided to defy the congressional summons, which culminated in his sentence.
