In an intriguing instance of sibling camaraderie swapping the family dining table for the conference room, identical twin brothers David and Greg Silbert played pivotal roles in saving the Pac-12 collegiate athletic conference from an impending crisis. This feat allowed the twins to beautifully intertwine their personal and professional lives, a tale that unfolds with humour, dedication and a shared sense of purpose.
David Silbert, a lawyer at Keker Van Nest & Peters, and his identical twin brother Greg Silbert, a partner at Weil Gotshal & Manges, were at the helm of their respective legal teams pushing for the rescue of the Pac-12 conference. A good deal of their work transpired over the Thanksgiving holiday, but the brothers resisted any temptation to clock their efforts during the traditional family dinner.
It also took David Silbert some effort to balance familial bonds with professional demeanour, as he found himself in constant communication with his brother. “It was really funny to be on constant calls with my twin brother and I had to resist the urge to talk to him as my brother and relate to him more as a professional,” he told the American Lawyer.
The unique case brought a sense of delight to their professional dealings, with Greg recalling the flurry of “funny emails back and forth” as they realized the weight of the situation they were called to address. The situation took a humorous turn for David as well. Scheduling a ‘conference with Silbert’, referring to his own surname, in his work calendar added a dash of amusement to their otherwise serious endeavour.
Despite handling a serious litigation of such magnitude, the brothers found joy in their unique working situation. This is a testament to their commitment and kinship, demonstrating how the personal and professional can harmoniously blend under extraordinary circumstances.
