This follows a recent pattern of right-wing Republicans found liable for defamation who subsequently declare bankruptcy to avoid compensating the plaintiffs. At stake here is whether E. Jean Carroll will indeed receive the colossal sum of damages ordered by the court – a total of $88 million, taking into account a previous $5 million verdict from last year’s case.
However, E. Jean Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, remains unyieldingly confident that her client will indeed see every penny. Kaplan declared this during an appearance on Anderson Cooper’s CNN show, confidently predicting that Trump will have to fulfill his obligations one way or another.
“I think he’s going to have to pay and whether it requires him to sell something or to put a lien on something to get a loan, that’s his problem, not ours,” Kaplan said. “He’s going to pay.”
If Trump continues to defame Carroll, Kaplan intimates, it could potentially cost him even more. With all this in play, it’s certainly a case for legal professionals across the globe to keep an eye on.
