The Massachusetts State High Court has recently experienced a shift in its judicial bench, as Justice David Lowy has stepped down while Associate Justice Elizabeth Dewar was sworn in. The commencement of Justice Elizabeth Dewar and resignation of Justice David Lowy became fully apparent at the oral argument on Monday.
Justice Elizabeth Dewar was administered the oath of office during a ceremony held on 29th January by Massachusetts Governor, Maura Healey. As Elizabeth Dewar was embarking on her new journey, Justice David Lowy was engaged in last-minute efforts to bid goodbye to the bench on 3rd February.
Throughout his tenure, Justice David Lowy often jokingly referred to as ‘Professor Wigmore’, an affectionate nod to his habit of employing a Socratic method of questioning. His influence on the court will undoubtedly leave a lasting effect, while Justice Dewar brings her experience to further build upon this legacy.
