The Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) is on the path to form a Technology Task Force in March 2024. The Board of Governors (BOG) will be assessing the proposal to bring this initiative to life. If given the green light, the Task Force will undertake a twofold mission. They will critically assess the legal technology landscape, bring to light potential threats and opportunities across differing sectors, and will aim to lean the practice of law towards more efficient, effective, and ethical use of technology, thereby significantly enhancing equitable access to justice.
The proposed Task Force is now looking for a suitable WSBA member to serve in the capacity of the chair for the duration of the Task Force’s existence, expected to be around 15 months. The expected qualifications of this key individual include:
- A proven track record of leadership, particularly in formal committees or task forces.
- The ability to allocate necessary time and effort to the cause, estimated to be around 10 hours per month.
- A strong grip over the subject matter, especially at the intersection of law and technology.
- The capability to represent the Task Force at BOG meetings.
- A familiarity with the Access to Justice Technology Principles as established by the Washington Supreme Court.
The selected chair will commence their term as soon as the Task Force charter is approved. Interested candidates are expected to act fast to express their interest, as the deadline for applications is fast approaching. Candidates are required to email their cover letter and resume to barleaders@wsba.org by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024. Any late submissions may not be considered.
Applications will be evaluated by a panel including the WSBA President, co-chairs of the Member Engagement Council, WSBA’s Practice Management Advisor, and WSBA’s Advancement Department Director. The WSBA President will make the final recommendation, which will be subject to approval by the BOG.
