Smokeball, a law practice management platform, recently revealed its ambitious plan to incorporate generative artificial intelligence across the client lifecycle. This announcement, made at the American Bar Association’s Techshow in Chicago, presents a new paradigm shift for legal workflow management.
According to Smokeball, this AI system will optimize workflows to expedite intake processes, navigate through matter documents, provide legal answers, draft correspondence, and produce tailored descriptions of work directly on invoices.
The first set of these advanced features is set to launch in beta in March, aiming legal markets in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. General availability is expected by mid-year, followed by additional features later this year or at the beginning of next.
The first batch of features named as Smokeball Matter.ai will focus on assisting lawyers in managing their matters and delivering work for clients. The key components of Smokeball Matter.ai includes:
- A built-in interface to ChatGPT, creating a safe and secure environment.
- Legal answer generation by using generative AI along with third-party partners.
- Matter and document answers, a generative AI interface that allows users to quickly obtain information about a matter, summarize a matter, create content or draft correspondence.
Later this March, Smokeball will also be launching two additional features; Smokeball Intake.ai, and Smokeball AutoTime.ai. The former will transform physical intake forms into digital forms using AI, and the latter will enrich Smokeball’s existing time capture system by automatically creating detailed work descriptions.
Considering the future pipeline, Smokeball is planning to offer two more AI features; Smokeball FirstDraft.ai, an AI-based drafting tool, and Smokeball Insights.ai, a tool for finding staff, client, and matter insights.
During its recent demonstration, Smokeball showcased how these AI-infused features will interact with matter information, documents, emails, and financial data to efficiently answer user queries, automate tasks and improve productivity.
Smokeball’s integration of AI into day-to-day legal tasks promisingly redefines the efficiency and speediness of legal processes, potentially serving as a yardstick for other technology companies in the legal space.
