In a recent development, one of the primary sources directed against the Biden family that was forming the basis underpinning the impeachment efforts of the GOP has been indicted for having allegedly lied to the FBI about bribes counting in millions of dollars, originally thought to be involving Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
This individual, named Alexander Smirnov, has previously been involved in a similar situation, as evidenced here, bolstering suspicions over his credibility. For years, leading figures in the Republican party suspected that Biden, during his time as Vice President, endeavored to shield his son’s business interests through corruption in Ukraine. However, these accusations had largely been discredited in the past.
Smirnov, though a longtime FBI informant, made false claims about his meetings with officials from Burisma, the Ukrainian energy company possibly tied to Hunter Biden. His erroneous claims extended to false mentions of meetings, phone calls, and illicit payment allegations against the Bidens. Smirnov’s manipulation of facts and the resulting indictment serve as yet another blow to the impeachment effort made by Republicans against Biden.
Despite these findings, Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, in his recent statement, displays no remorse. Instead, he emphasizes the FBI’s failure to act on the information provided from a formerly trusted and vetted source, and the subsequent lack of transparency towards both the Congress and the public. Although the current allegations against Biden and his son are being continuously debunked, the GOP maintains its faith in Tony Bobulinski, a previously involved figure with a dubious past.
