Last week, a Montana attorney, Meghan Doud, was disbarred and ordered to pay over $1.3 million in restitution for what the state bar commission has described as the most severe and widespread violation of trust and misappropriation it has ever witnessed.
Doud, who is based in Kalispell, Montana, was unanimously disbarred by the Montana Supreme Court following multiple incidents involving her firm’s trust accounts. She was accused of merging attorney funds with client funds, and of imposing exorbitant fees and legal costs on her clients. Justice Jim Rice recused himself from the proceedings.
The Commission recommended disbarment, citing the unparalleled scope and scale of Doud’s ethical failures, making this case the most flagrant and comprehensive trust violation and misappropriation case it has yet faced. Read more about the case on Law.com
