ALM Media have provided insights into the judging process for the second annual Southeastern Legal Awards, an initiative that significantly expanded last year to include diverse entries from Georgia and neighboring states, such as North and South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. With the submission deadline set for March 1, legal professionals in these southeastern states have the opportunity to highlight their exceptional legal expertise and contributions to their firms and the field of law.
The interview sheds light on the perspective of Regional Managing Editor Michael Marciano, who is stepping in for the first time to handle duties for the Southeastern Legal Awards. Marciano will lead an editorial team at ALM that along with a panel of external judges for the Rising Stars category, will carefully review all nominations.
The new categories of Young Lawyer of the Year and Managing Partner of the Year provide an opportunity to recognize talent at both ends of the experience spectrum, and the awards are open not only to attorneys licensed to practice in the aforementioned states, but also to non-attorneys in certain categories like Best Mentors and Unsung Heroes, based on the nature of individual submissions.
While there is no restriction on the number of submissions per category, Marciano’s advice to the representatives of law firms using their best judgment while submitting entries underscores the need for rational nominations that truly represent exceptional performances in the legal landscape.
