New York State courts have been called on to increase their utilization of virtual court proceedings, according to recommendations published by the NY Court Modernization Committee. This directive was part of a larger modernization plan detailed in the Committee’s latest report.
The report positions improvement in virtual proceedings and technological upgrade as a priority for 2024. The Committee has suggested regular and uniform use of virtual proceedings, alongside improvements in the court’s tech capabilities and website infrastructure. It urges increased investment in both hardware and software assets. In addition, the report emphasizes the need for additional robust training and support for both court personnel and users for optimal participation in virtual proceedings.
These measures, the Committee believes, are critical in ensuring that the New York State court system is fully responsive, accessible, and efficient, even as it adapts to the continuing changes in the legal landscape.
