Gibson Dunn Relocates to Downtown Palo Alto, Breaking Away from Page Mill Road Tradition

As a Silicon Valley venture capitalist in search of legal services, one’s first stop would probably be Page Mill Road. Located in the valley south of Stanford’s campus, it has been a hub for Bay Area powerhouses and interlopers in Big Law keen to establish close ties with their start-up clients since the 1970s. This office park strip of 1.5 miles currently houses the offices of significant players in the legal arena, including Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Morrison Foerster, Perkins Coie, Willkie Farr & Gallagher, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, and Sidley Austin, to name a few.

However, up until recently, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher had also counted itself among the legal titans adorning Page Mill Road, having opened its office there in 1979. But as of October, the law firm has relocated to a mixed-use building in downtown Palo Alto, effectively swapping its previous location for one nestled amidst everyday conveniences – a Starbucks just down the block and a Keen hiking boots shop right across the street. The firm’s new location is also more accessible for commuting employees, sitting just three blocks away from the town’s Caltrain high-speed rail stop.

This move represents a departure from the conventional office park setup in search of a location closer to the residences of some attorneys and within a stone’s throw of a public transportation system for the others. Read more about it in detail on Law.com.
