The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) conducted its first field test involving NextGen bar exam, with 4,124 participants hailing from 88 law schools from 41 jurisdictions. The NextGen bar exam appears to be gaining traction, with 25% of states expressing their intention to use it.
The field test is an essential step in understanding the practical application of the new question types. It provided the NCBE’s exam developers and psychometric experts invaluable data and insights. The feedback from the new question types on the exam assists the NCBE in ensuring that the new exam effectively evaluates the necessary knowledge and skills of incoming lawyers, as detailed in the NCBE’s announcement.
Furthering progress towards the NextGen bar exam, the NCBE has also established the Family Law Content Scope Panel. This panel’s task is to develop an in-depth content outline, which will determine the range and the depth of family law material to be covered in the NextGen bar exam starting in July 2028.
