Kirkland & Ellis and Jackson Walker, respected international law firms, along with former U.S. Bankruptcy Judge David Jones, have recently come under the spotlight for allegations of involvement in a convoluted case of civil racketeering. Morton Bouchard III, the plaintiff in this case, made the allegations in a suit filed this week in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas-Houston Division.
The accusation makes note of the recent discovery of an undisclosed romantic relationship between Judge Jones and a former bankruptcy partner. Bouchard posits that these two law firms had knowledge of the situation and exploited it for their benefit. He alleges that these firms intricately devised a plan to rake in exorbitant fees through a “Jones’-Freeman conduit”, thereby conducting what he suggests is a fraudulent operation.
Before these allegations, Kirkland & Ellis and Jackson Walker were engaged in the bankruptcy process of Bouchard’s company. The plaintiff has insinuated that the firms found a way to unjustly amass considerable profits through the controversial interpersonal relationship. This particular scenario is the latest suit in an escalating situation following the public revelation of this undisclosed relationship.
