New Canadian Law Mandates Rapid Removal of Online Hate Content and Penalties for Non-Compliance

Canada has recently enacted legislation aimed at curbing online hate and abuse, obligating major tech firms to rapidly expunge harmful content or face severe monetary penalties. The law was introduced on a Monday, targeting hate speech, content inciting violence or terrorism, content sexualizing children, revictimizing survivors of sexual violence, and non-consensually shared sexual content. The Online Harms Act now also stipulates a maximum sentence of life imprisonment for advocating genocide online.
