Law firms King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) and Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) are playing pivotal roles in a recent significant transaction in the energy sector. KWM is providing legal consultancy to Australian gas and petroleum behemoth, Woodside, on the sale of a $1.4 billion stake in the Scarborough gas project located in Western Australia. The stake was sold to JERA, Japan’s largest natural gas importer, which has now committed to purchasing six LNG shipments per year from its portfolio for the coming decade, starting from the year 2026, based on this agreement. The year 2026 is also when JERA is scheduled to make its first LNG shipment.
A more exhaustive account of the transaction’s details, including the counsel of JERA, HSF, can be found in a recent Law.com article. Please note, however, that access to the full text might be restricted, as the article was found to be behind a paywall.
