The Clarkson Law Firm continues to file lawsuits against CooperSurgical Inc. in the wake of a widespread loss of embryos. The companies affected, as well as many couples struggling with fertility, particularly the litigants in the CooperSurgical legal battles, are expressing concern about the future of in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Such apprehensions among those seeking to have children through IVF are further fueled by a contentious ruling recently. The Alabama Supreme Court determined on the 16th of February that frozen embryos may be regarded as children. This interpretation allows for wrongful-death lawsuits, brought by couples whose embryos were destroyed accidentally in a fertility clinic, to move forward. Tracey Cowan from Clarkson Law Firm, who is representing the plaintiffs, suggests that such judicial decisions may leave IVF, perceived by many as their only hope of starting or expanding their families, teetering on the edge.
