Former Trump Organization CFO Weisselberg Pleads Guilty to Perjury Charges

Allen Weisselberg, the former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Trump Organization, pled guilty to two counts of perjury in the first degree on Monday, surrendering to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. The District Attorney (DA) currently recommends a five-month incarceration, however, failure to comply with probation terms could see the duration extend to seven years.

Weisselberg’s perjury charges are reportedly connected to a deposition he gave in July 2020, as part of New York Attorney General Letitia James’ case against former President Donald Trump. Allegedly, while under oath, Weisselberg delivered untruths about Trump’s wealth and the financial condition of the Trump Organization. He is said to have deceptively presented these statements to banks and insurance corporations.

In response to these actions, the New York Appellate Court held Trump accountable for distorting these reports, disseminating false financial statements, plotting to commit insurance fraud, and conspiring to falsify business records. Consequently, Trump was directed to disburse a total of $454 million. However, Trump challenged this judgment on appeal.

Currently, Weisselberg is still on probation from a previous conviction for tax evasion relating to benefits received during his tenure at the Trump Organization. The court formerly sentenced Weisselberg to a five-month jail term, five years of probation, and a tax payment of nearly $2 million. However, his actual prison term amounted to approximately 100 days. The former CFO is due to be sentenced for the present perjury charges on April 10.
