Henchman Streamlines Legal Drafting with Microsoft Copilot Integration

Legal tech startup Henchman has unveiled a new integration with Microsoft Copilot aiming to efficiently streamline the legal drafting process by leveraging previously written contract clauses and definitions. The Belgium-based company believes this integration is the first of its kind.

Henchman’s core service provides legal teams swift access to previously utilized contract clauses and definitions within Microsoft Word. Now, with Microsoft Copilot integration, users can draw forth clauses and precedents that have been processed by Henchman and stored in their Document Management Systems (DMS).

This novel collaboration is poised to embolden legal professionals to harness the collective knowledge embedded in their DMS, optimising drafting processes and providing a more efficient system, all within the secure remit of Microsoft’s robust security protocols.

The implications of this integration hold considerable benefits for Henchman customers, as Microsoft Copilot will be able to offer suggestions directly from the customer’s DMS, such as iManage, NetDocuments or SharePoint when queried. The result is a system that can generate more accurate responses, improve drafting efficiency and leverage a legal team’s collective knowledge by using advanced algorithms and metadata.

Beyond the direct benefits for users, the integration also shows promise for knowledge managers. They can utilize the mirrored user permissions from the DMS enabled by this integration to ensure that the appropriate practice groups can access the suitable resources.

The feature list includes enabling users to rapidly surface clauses and their contextual data stored in their DMS when using Microsoft Copilot. Moreover, users will have swift access to the source document, thus easily determining the best precedent for negotiation.

For Jorn Vanysacker, co-founder at Henchman, this integration with Microsoft Copilot marks a significant milestone in their quest to augment how legal professionals work, by providing the necessary tools, where and when they need them.

The integration is currently available for early Microsoft Copilot adopters in Microsoft Teams via early access. As Microsoft progressively releases Copilot across its range of products, Henchman intends to maintain the same rollout cadence. Importantly, the integration will be available at no additional charge to all Henchman customers.
