eBay’s Chief Legal Officer Marie Oh Huber Departs Amid Corporate Changes

Marie Oh Huber, the Chief Legal Officer of eBay Inc. for almost a decade, has announced her departure from the online retail juggernaut to explore other professional ventures. The announcement was made public in a memo by eBay’s CEO, Jamie Iannone. The memo did not provide specific reasons for Huber’s decision.

During her tenure, Huber navigated challenging legal waters, including a deferred prosecution agreement with Boston’s federal prosecutors related to criminal cyberstalking charges involving several former eBay employees. These employees were dismissed in 2020, with one sentenced to five years in prison in 2022.

Huber’s departure comes amidst significant corporate changes at eBay. In January, the company announced its intention to cut 9% of its workforce, roughly 1000 employees, as part of an effort to refine its operations amid increased competition. This information was first reported on Bloomberg Law.

Throughout her career, Huber has been a strong advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her departure will leave a significant gap in eBay’s leadership, particularly in these areas. Huber’s responsibilities will be transitioned to a successor, whose search will include both internal and external candidates, as confirmed by eBay.

Before joining eBay in 2015, Huber served as the chief legal officer at Agilent Technologies Inc. and also worked at Hewlett-Packard Co. As she embarks on her next professional chapter, she owns roughly $11 million in eBay stock and serves as a member of the board at Portland General Electric Co, where she received almost $255,000 in total compensation in the last fiscal.
