Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani Achieves 15% Revenue Jump in 2023 with Nationwide Expansion

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, a law firm with footprint in all 50 US states, saw a 15% increase in its gross revenue in 2023. This growth could be ascribed to its rapid expansion, which included the addition of close to 170 attorneys and four new office locations. The firm reported its gross revenue standing at $612.8 million for the year, up from $531.1 million in 2022, according to figures released to Bloomberg Law.

Founded in 1974, Gordon Rees initially operated as an insurance defense law firm in San Francisco. However, over the past few decades, in a move that signified the scale-driven legal industry trend, the firm reached an operational presence in all 50 US states, a first in the legal industry’s history.

Dion Cominos, the managing partner of the firm since 2006, asserts that such an unprecedented national presence has fortified Gordon Rees’s value proposition to clients. With a multi-level practice that includes litigation, labor and employment, as well as insurance, the firm’s clientele includes big corporate names like Travelers Insurance, Aetna, and Ford Motor Co.

As per Cominos, Gordon Rees’s growth has been unaffected by the slowdowns in capital markets and mergers and acquisitions that other legal firms have dealt with. Indeed, its litigation-focused strategy has allowed for continuous hiring and expansion. Gordon Rees’s growth trajectory, fueled by increased competition for talent and complex global business regulations, underscores the pressure faced by many law firms to enlarge their operations.

Aware that a geographically diverse strategy raises issues about successful integration, Cominos believes that rather than operating akin to a referral network, a busy firm’s growth can be dictated by the specificities of client-related industries and markets.
