Thomson Reuters, a leading multinational mass media company, has extended the availability of its innovative AI legal technology, CoCounsel Core, to the United Kingdom. This move comes following the successful rollout of the service in the United States, Australia and Canada.
The AI-Assisted Research tool was introduced into the United States through renowned legal research platform, Westlaw Edge, back in November. This tool is also expected to be available on Westlaw Edge UK within weeks.
CoCounsel Core, formerly known as CoCounsel, is an advanced generative AI product, initially launched by Casetext exactly a year before this announcement. Casetext, a legal technology company, was acquired by Thomson Reuters in June 2023. Subsequently, TR announced its plans to integrate the AI-enhanced product across multiple applications while still selling it independently as CoCounsel Core.
In its new release, Thomson Reuters has announced that it is expanding the availability of CoCounsel Core to the UK, where several law firms are already using the tool.
The product delivers eight core generative AI-powered legal skills: Prepare for a Deposition, Draft Correspondence, Search a Database, Review Documents, Summarize a Document, Extract Contract Data, Contract Policy Compliance and Timeline. These have been designed to dramatically improve and streamline legal operations.
Since its launch on March 1, 2023, CoCounsel has stimulated the development of generative AI products by several legal tech companies. To celebrate its one-year anniversary, the company published the CoCounsel Index, providing an overview of the product’s successful growth.
