iManage Records Impressive Growth and Outlines Future AI and Partnership Plans

iManage, the document and email management company, has seen dramatic success since being launched in 1995. Originally popular for its collaborative approach to content management in law firms, it was soon acquired for $171 million by Interwoven. However, the subsequent acquisition of Interwoven by Autonomy, and then Hewlett-Packard’s buyout of Autonomy, culminated in a debacle, with Autonomy accused of inflating its value, leading to years of litigation that continues to this day.

Amidst these complications, iManage original founders, led by Neil Araujo and Rafiq Mohammadi, repurchased the company in 2015 and began its restoration process. Following the launch of its native cloud platform, iManage Cloud, key acquisitions were made, namely, UK artificial intelligence company RAVN Systems and legal transaction management company Closing Folders.

In addition to receiving a minority strategic growth investment from Bain Capital, the company launched iManage AI, an AI search engine. iManage Tracker, a task management service, further underscores the company’s strong AI and tech focus.

The recent reveal of iManage details shows their achievements, which include the addition of more than 300 new customers to its global customer base of over 4,000 across six continents. This includes significant representation in Fortune 100 companies, the Am Law 100, and numerous accounting and financial institutions worldwide.

Annual recurring revenue for iManage Cloud grew by 36%, with over 60% of its customer base, or approximately 2,400 customers, using iManage Cloud. This amounts to the handling of over 11 billion documents and 11 petabytes of data for over 430,000 users.

In keeping with its tagline, “Making Knowledge Work”, the company plans to enhance its iManage knowledge work platform over the coming year. It aims to provide significant innovation with advanced AI services across the platform, and new solutions incorporating generative AI for tasks like information retrieval, contract summarization, and email management.

Plans also include the strengthening of partnerships, particularly their “better together” alliance with Microsoft, which includes improvements to integrations with Microsoft 365, native desktop co-authoring, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Co-pilot. Furthermore, the integration with ServiceNow, and partnerships across a technology ecosystem of over 200 partners is planned for the coming year to consolidate its footprint within law firms and legal departments.

iManage CEO, Araujo, said, “As 2024 unfolds, our dedication to people, innovation and operational maturity remains steadfast, and we look forward to another year filled with fresh avenues for growth and opportunity.”
