Litigation Funder Burford Capital Sees Revenues Triple Amid Thawing Courts and Pandemic-Driven Growth

In a surge driven by thawing courts and pandemic-era portfolio growth, Burford Capital—the largest publicly traded litigation funding firm globally—reported a three-fold rise in its consolidated revenues in FY2023. Mirroring its revenue statistics, the company’s earnings per share escalated by a factor of 19, marking a new high of $2.74.

This impressive financial turnaround, leaders at Burford Capital told investors on March 14, arose from the successful realization of more than a billion dollars on a group-wide basis—an uptick of 52%. Pre-pandemic portfolio growth and a backlog of court cases—soon to be in full swing—were pivotal to this success.

Moreover, the robust financial performance catalyzed an advance on the New York Stock Exchange, as the company’s shares vaulted 4.4% on the results. With courts resuming normal operations, the leadership anticipates extensive activity in the forthcoming years.
